Who is:

Sister Lucia is a missionary in Uganda since 1961. It is part of the Congregation of the Comboni Sisters.

In Italy he made his religious training and immediately started for Africa. Entered the Congregation Sept. 19, 1958, just to go to the Mission, has left for Africa October 19, 1961. It 's almost always been in Uganda, except for eight years, because ejected. This period has elapsed in Portugal and Spain in the House of Formation.

He says of himself: "I am not able to write what I do in the mission, but one thing I can say: I thank the Lord for the gift of the Missionary Vocation." It 'a great missionary, full of enthusiasm and courage, who can apply what they acquired in the family to help the poorest of the poor, his friends, especially in African refugee camps in Uganda.

Where it operates:

In 1986 he began a guerrilla war. It 's always been in the territory controlled by rebels. Unfortunately during the guerrilla war the sisters were locked in the house. It was dangerous to even a single kilometer of road. But women were the same mission.

With 20 years of guerrilla activity has now a big gap between people. It is known and it shows very clearly the very rich and the poor (there are those who enriched and depleted). We are in Northern Uganda in Gulu. Here were established in 2002, the refugee camps, where a half million people live in inhuman conditions.

The population has been forced to flee their homes and retire to these places, all piled up, a nearby hut to another, golf 40/60.000 people, no water, no toilets, no food. But put them there, in the barracks, they have nothing, absolutely nothing! That's why they reappeared and were propagated so many skin diseases (scabies, lice, ringworm), gastritis, etc.. Because of this assemblage AIDS is high.

Activities:

In the past, the Comboni Sisters had activated primary and secondary schools, for the preparation of teachers, and five or six hospitals. Since 1990 they started to transfer the management of schools to the local nuns, and so the hospitals. And in these activities worked Sister Lucia.

He has always done all the work needed at home, takes off the meetings with women from AIDS, with the widows and the handicapped; brings Communion to the people. He has taught embroidery and crochet.

For some years the home of his community has become a Centre for Missionary Animation which organizes courses for youth. In October 2008 was attended by 300 boys and girls. In this Mission Sister Lucia is committed to the school children.
