Bishop of San Salvador de Jujuy (population 320,000), capital of the Argentine province of Jujuy.
Born in Caldogno (Vicenza) September 17, 1943, a religious of the Congregation of Priests of the Sacred Heart (Dehonians), was ordained priest in 1970 and bishop in 1995. A rosary is a graduate in psychology and philosophy.
Where it operates:
Since June of 1970 has been a missionary in Argentina.
He carried out his mission in Buenos Aires, in the Province of Santa Fe, in the Province of Chaco, and now in the Province of Jujuy. Here, 60-70% of the inhabitants are Indians, many of whom are immigrants from neighboring countries: Bolivia, Peru, Paraguay and Chile because of poverty and joblessness.
He is chairman of the Commission for the Missions in the Episcopal Conference of Argentina and CARIBE.
Activities:
his first ministry was among the young student with the students. It 'was the director of the Center for the Encuentro.
Considers very important the communication, also to cover distances that are huge in Argentina. To this church he founded the radio in the Chaco, and now the diocesan radio in Jujuy, participates as a commentator for the television section of the Province of Jujuy.
Chaco was the pastor at the General San Martin and teacher in state schools.
Indefatigable, he carries out his teaching especially in the pastoral mission, but also in social commitment among his people: he set up group homes for abandoned children, homes for unwed mothers, soup kitchens for the elderly, schools for vocational qualifications for young people, craft activities for the unemployed and prisoners. It is inspiring the voluntary and public institutions to guarantee to those who desperately need the right to personal dignity, work and home, even becoming the mediator between the government and population in the most difficult emergencies.
In his pastoral mission in Jujuy has visited all communities, even the most distant and smallest of the diocese ever reached by a priest, sometimes simultaneously administering the sacraments of Baptism, Eucharist, Penance, Confirmation (or Chrismation), marriage and anointing the sick.
When his commitments take him to Europe to meet and missing update us on projects in which we work.
