Who is:

Sister Mariella Tadiello is missionary in Ecuador since 2004.

Born in Montorso on 1 July 1944, the 1972 is a sister Marianist Congregation of the "Daughters of Mary Immaculate d'Agen" essentially missionary.
Before leaving for Italy in Equador has worked both in parishes and in the nursery of San Leonardo di Cutro (Crotone) and in kindergarten, "John XXIII" Caldogno (Vicenza).

Where it operates:

Just arrived in Ecuador worked Quinindé, now located in the south of Quito to Latacunga, in the Sierra, in the province of Cotopaxi.

The population of Ecuador, eleven and a half million inhabitants, is a set of heterogeneous races and ethnicities including mestizos, Indians, Creoles and blacks. The Ecuadorians live mainly on agriculture, the products are for export.

Some data: inflation is high, the average monthly wage (calculated among those who work, of course) is about 150 dollars (130 euros), the birth rate of 29.7 per thousand, 54 thousand babies fail to survive until the first year of life, a woman gives birth to 3.7 children, the unemployed and the underemployed are 3 million; children at work (forced in poor conditions of hygiene and safety) are 1 ½ million, one million of whom are under 10 years of age, is still high school drop-outs (30% in urban areas); malnutrition affects 48% of the population and 19% of it is illiterate, more than 500,000 young people have no access the school system.

Activities:

Many campesino communities living in extreme poverty, there is a shortage of every service needed for primary health, education, nutrition. Children and adolescents often live in a state of neglect, they must work to get some 'food for them and for the family. We need education.

The activities of the sisters is therefore paid child literacy, the promotion of women, Caritas, the sick, and there is also the commitment to parish ministry. And here is grafted the work of Sister Mariella.

With the resources of adoptions, coming from Italy, try to treat literacy among underprivileged children and provide for basic needs. The sisters are entertainers of the primary school, aged five to eleven years.
